We congratulate Emily Spano- Bentley, Chairman of the show, and the 95 guild members who entered, for producing one of the most exciting shows we’ve ever had. With new wall space available, the work fit comfortably, and looked incredible. The reception was beautiful and surprisingly popular.  At one count, there were 125 people in the room!          Thanks to Jo Farris for the professional flower arrangement, and to the many members who brought food.  Many compliments were heard about Emily’s beautiful tables and the good food. Our thanks go to Joyce Turner who worked very hard on the show, and to her sister, Sarah Robinson, and niece, Victoria Robinson for many hours of work on our behalf.  Thanks to Geri M. Davis for supervising the hanging of the show, and to Jean Johnson, Janice Dean, and Rebecca Kissel for serving on the show committee.
Our show received raves from the public. When this reporter was staffing the show two groups were using the meeting rooms.  One fellow asked in wonder, ”And these are all LOCAL ARTISTS?” I was proud to answer “Yes they are!”
Cash awards for the show included $1,200 in merit awards (Best of Show, Second, and Third Place), $1,650 in special awards, and the $3,000 AFLAC Library Purchase Award, for a total of $5,850.  We also gained a few new members for the show, whom we are glad to have.

The 2008 AFLAC Library Purchase Award

"60,000 Time to Change" by James Moore
"60,000 Time to Change" by James Moore
The Columbus Artists' Guild wishes to thank AFLAC for supplying the funds for this year's Library Purchase Award.  We feel the beautiful new Columbus Library should be filled with the best art available from the local art community.  The winner of this award is selected by the Art Committee of the Library Board.  The 2008 award is the second purchase from the Artists' Guild's Members' Show, and we hope this is a tradition that will continue to make our library one of a kind with art that is one of a kind!

Thank you to AFLAC, without whose help this award would not have been possible!
