Mrs. Miller grew up in New Jersey, but it was from long, languid summers, spent at her grandparentsí lake house in Georgia, that she learned to love the natural world.
She chose art studies at Ohio University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Art Education.Returning to the south, Mrs. Miller settled in Columbus, GA, teaching at Brookstone School.Later, she found new challenges working for the W.C. Bradley Company for 15 years; first working as the Arts Coordinator, with the responsibility of formulating the Centennial Art Collection, then in the Mail Order Division, launching the Sugar Hill Catalog .
Jan Miller showed a keen interest in local art as a founder and creator of Joseph House Gallery in 1999, and as President of the Columbus Artistsí Guild in 2004 and 2005, while working as a professional artist and teacher.
In 2006 Mrs. Miller moved to Athens Georgia, where she agreed to be president, from 2006 until 2008, of the Athens Art Association, a one hundred year old art guild. She continues to paint scenes from Georgia and Florida, and those seen from the window of her studio.
